Charge d'Affaires Oleg Murashev, will serve as Russian ambassador to Azerbaijan until next year.

Russian Foreign Ministry (MFA) spokesperson Maria Zakharova told that commenting on the appointment of a new Russian ambassador.

"Several candidates for the post of Russian ambassador to Azerbaijan are currently being considered. After choosing a specific diplomat, his candidacy must be approved in the State Duma. Until that moment none of the diplomatic or deputy corps has the right to disclose the name of candidate”, - Maria Zakharova said.

Notably, on November 27, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree releasing Vladimir Dorokhin from the duties of Russia's ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Azerbaijan. V. Dorokhin was in this position since 2009.
