Rags-to-riches stories don't just happen in the movies. Some of the most famous people in this world didn’t magically find themselves in the middle of success and fame. They spent nights on the streets, in their cars, or on other people’s couches.

Here are 15 of those incredible stories of celebrities that turned their misfortune into great achievements later in life:

1. Sylvester Stallone

Before Rocky was made, Sylvester Stallone was homeless and sold his dog for $50. One week later, after he cashed in by selling the script, he reportedly bought the dog back for $3000.

2. Daniel Craig

The Independent reported that the James Bond actor waited tables and even slept on park benches early in his career as an actor.

3. Jennifer Lopez

When Lopez was 18, she wanted to be a dancer while her mother wanted her to go to college, so she moved out and started sleeping on the sofa of her dance studio.

4. Steve Jobs

While dropping out of college ultimately helped Steve Jobs achieve his dreams, it first left him without a dorm room. He was homeless and had to collect coke bottles to earn money for food.

5. Jim Carrey

When his family fell on tough times they ended up living out of a van. He worked as a janitor while going to open mic nights in his time off and eventually landed the lead in Once Bitten.
