A district attorney's office has officially declined to file sexual assault charges against Sylvester Stallone. reports citing Independent that prosecutors in California found there was "insufficient evidence" against the Hollywood actor.

A woman told Santa Monica police in November last year that the Rambo star attacked her on two separate occasions, in 1987 and 1990. She claimed that friends were informed of the incidents at the time, but when brought in for questioning they did not corroborate her account.

The 72-year-old denied the allegations and the Los Angeles County District Attorney has now said no charges will be brought.

The charge evaluation sheet states: "Victim and suspect had a consensual relationship in 1987. The victim alleged assaults in 1987 and 1990 and provided fresh complaint witnesses.

"However, none of the witnesses corroborated victim's allegations. Additional investigation did not provide any further corroboration."

Stallone will next appear alongside Michael B Jordan in the sequel to Creed, once again playing the iconic boxer Rocky.
