Authorities sifting through the charred remains of a rave venue in Oakland, California, fear more people may have died.

Nine ravers have so far been confirmed dead with many missing after fire swept through the converted warehouse. Between 50 and 100 people are thought to have been at the party. Oakland is in shock:“It’s a tragedy, I mean, a lot of young people going out to have a good time in the wrong place at the wrong time, you know,” said one Oaklander; another found it hard to comprehend’: “I am sorry for everyone’s loss, it’s the people I didn’t know. It’s just, I can’t even…, it’s mind blowing. Heartbreaking.’‘
