EU customs mission official beaten, mugged in Ukraine

A member of the European Union’s customs assistance mission to Ukraine has been beaten up and robbed in the port city of Odessa, local police said in a statement.

The 47-year-old citizen of Germany, a member of the European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM), was admitted to hospital after the attack. His health condition is unknown.

"The man said that about 3:00 a.m. two unknown men attacked him near the city’s railway station, inflicting him bodily harm and taking his property," the statement reads.

Police has detained two suspected attackers. A criminal case has been launched.
