Moscow's Zamoskvoretsk District Court on Thursday sentenced Armenian businessman Levon Ayrapetyan four years in prison on charges of appropriating an amount of 700,000 dollars.

Levon Ayrapetyan is the main sponsor of the separatist regime created in the Armenian-occupied Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan.

He is charged with embezzlement and money laundering in the case of the sale of Bashneft’s shares. He was arrested in July 2014.

The investigation has made it clear that the Armenian businessman has dual citizenship and real estate abroad. He was initially put in pretrial detention. In October 2015, however, this he was released under house arrest.

The prosecutor asked the court to sentence him 7 years in prison.

Ayrapetyan is considered to be one of the ten richest Armenian diaspora activities worldwide.
