Israeli army Sunday overnight shelled two surveillance towers affiliated with the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, in the northern Gaza Strip, according to eye witnesses.

Axar.az reports citing AA that, the Israel army attacked two surveillance towers affiliated with the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades one of them is located in the eastern part of the Beit Hanoun, a city on the northeast edge of the Gaza Strip, and the second one is located in the eastern part of the Jabalia, a city on the north of the Gaza Strip.

The Gaza Health ministry has not made any statement on possible casualties.

The Israeli army, for its part, claimed in a written statement early Monday that the shelling had come after one Israeli soldier was wounded by shrapnel during the "Great Return March" demonstration in northern Gaza.

Tension has been high near the Gaza-Israel fence amid ongoing rallies by Palestinian demonstrators to demand the right to return to their homes in historical Palestine.

The rallies are also aimed at breaking the decade-long Israeli/Egyptian siege of the Gaza Strip.

Since the Gaza rallies began on Mar. 30, more than 230 Palestinian demonstrators have been martyred by Israeli army gunfire.
