3 pilot dies after Russian bomber’s crash near Murmansk

The third pilot of the Tu-22M3 bomber that crash-landed in northwestern Russia’s Murmansk Region has died in a military hospital, a local emergency medicine center told.

Axar.az reports citing Russian media.

"One [of those injured] died, he is the one, who was in a military sick ward," a spokesperson said.

Earlier, doctors told TASS that one of two crew members, who were injured when a Tupolev Tu-22M3 bomber crash landed, was in stably serious condition.

"Two people died, one stayed at a military sick ward, and another is in intensive care in a hospital in Olenegorsk. The condition of the patient, who is in intensive care, is stably serious," a spokesperson said.

After undergoing medical examination, the patient may be sent to another hospital.

The Russian Defense Ministry said the bomber crash landed in a blizzard after a routine training flight in the Murmansk Region on Tuesday. The plane carried no weapons.

The Tupolev-22M3 with a crew of four is meant for attacking strategic targets on the enemy’s territory. Its maximum speed is 2,300 km per hour, and the flight range is 7,000 km.
