Despite the occupation of 20 percent of Azerbaijan's internationally recognized territory by Armenia for nearly thirty years and the displacement of nearly one million Azerbaijanis from their ancestral lands, we were able to build a strong country, secure the economy, and implement an independent policy.

Axar.az reports that President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev expressed this opinion in his speech at the opening ceremony of the COP29 Leaders' Summit in Baku on November 12.

"Four years ago, we celebrated the historic Victory in the Second Karabakh War, and thus we fully restored our sovereignty. All this was in accordance with the UN Charter, international law, UN Security Council resolutions. Those resolutions remained on paper for thirty years. We implemented the demands of those resolutions with our own strength, restored international law and justice, and ended the occupation of Armenia," Ilham Aliyev said.
