Jafarli: EU officials blind to Armenia’s role in aiding Russia

The EU has imposed sanctions on certain companies from China, India, Mauritius, the UAE, and other countries for helping Russia circumvent sanctions. One of the sanctioned companies is Azerbaijan’s “Aqua Fleet Management”, registered in Sumqayit on “Sülh Street.” The company reportedly owns only three ships, mostly operating in Brazil and Latin American countries. It appears that some EU officials made special efforts to include Azerbaijan in this list.

Axar.az reports that economic expert Natig Jafarli made this statement.

He added that, curiously, no Armenian companies are included in the decision, even though since 2022, when Russia launched its brutal invasion of Ukraine, trade between Russia and Armenia has increased about sevenfold:

“If European officials are not fools, they must understand this is not an organic or natural increase. It’s well known that Armenia provides significant support to Russia. For example, Russian gold and precious stones — particularly destined for Belgium — are exported via Armenia. Official Yerevan also plays a key role in transferring dual-use goods, semiconductors, and microchips to Russia. But some EU officials seem to ignore this.”

Jafarli also noted that Belgium’s Parliament adopted a ridiculous and meaningless document on June 17, targeting Azerbaijan, bringing up the already-resolved Karabakh issue, and defending the separatists currently on trial in Baku — individuals under Russia’s direct influence and control.

“Even Armenia has acknowledged the resolution of the Karabakh issue and has recognized Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty through official statements at least ten times. But some Brussels politicians still act with clear bias. Belgium, though it rhetorically claims to oppose Russia, bizarrely defends Kremlin agents — a tragicomedy of its own.”

Jafarli concluded by criticizing Europe’s inconsistencies:

“The heroic Ukrainian people have been fighting for 3.5 years, buying Europe time with their lives. Europe, foolishly dependent on U.S. security, outsourced defense and lagged behind in weapons manufacturing and army building. Now, they need 2–3 more years to rebuild their military industry. Yet, instead of fully helping Ukraine with the arms they already possess, they shamelessly ask Ukrainians to continue fighting to buy them more time.”

“Europe has politically, economically, and militarily ‘aged.’ As it ages, it loses its ‘teeth,’ and the American ‘dental prosthetics’ it relied on are also wearing out. All of this is the result of their own flawed and valueless policies.”
