There is no possibility of military escalation between Russia and Azerbaijan.
Axar.az informs that this was reported by Russia’s Nezigar Telegram channel, citing a diplomatic source.
“Russia does not have enough resources to conduct military operations in the Caucasus. The balance of military power is not in Russia’s favor — Azerbaijan has a military assistance agreement with Turkiye, a NATO member. The support of the leadership of Belarus and Kazakhstan for Baku completely rules out the participation of CSTO countries,” the report stated.
The source noted that Russia’s position in the South Caucasus has weakened in recent years, but the process has accelerated further this year:
“Turkiye and the U.S. have taken the lead in pushing for a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Iran’s influence in the region has sharply declined. Turkiye is building a multi-gas hub that will squeeze Gazprom out of the region. Turkiye is also increasing its interest in Abkhazia. Russia is being pushed out of the South Caucasus, which will affect the domestic agenda. The ‘Caucasus issue’ could become one of Russia’s main hot spots in the coming decade.”
