Both the military and the civilian population of Azerbaijan are exposed to the threat of landmines.

Axar.az reports that the statement came from Azerbaijani presidential aide Hikmet Hajiyev at an event dedicated to the International Day for Mine Awareness and Mine Action.

Hajiyev said that Armenia had planted a large number of mines during the occupation of Azerbaijani territories for 30 years.

"Armenia has purposefully used mines to target the civilian population of Azerbaijan. This is an example of Armenia's war crimes and contradicts Armenia's international obligations. The Armenian side does not provide the Azerbaijani side with a map of mines. The rights of the Azerbaijani civilian population are being grossly violated. It is also a policy of ethnic cleansing against the people of Azerbaijan and the continuation of the massacre.
