Ukraine's government suspends justice minister

Ukraine's government has suspended Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko following a high-profile investigation by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) into corruption at Energoatom, Ukraine's state nuclear energy company.

Axar.az reports, citing Ukrainian media, that Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko announced an extraordinary government meeting was held this morning, during which a decision was made to suspend Herman Halushchenko from his duties as justice minister.

The duties of the minister will be conducted by Liudmyla Suhak, Deputy Minister of Justice for European Integration.

Halushchenko commented on his suspension, stating that he does not cling to his position.

"I believe that suspension during the investigation is a civilised and correct course of action. I will defend myself legally and present my position," he said.
