Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed a decree on the dismissal of the governor of the Ukrainian region of Odessa, Mikheil Saakashvili, a statement on the presidential website says.

"President Petro Poroshenko dismissed the head of the Odessa Regional State Administration Mikheil Saakashvili from office, as well as his advisor," Sputnik cited the statement as saying.

On Monday, Saakashvili said he had made a decision to step down due to Ukrainian authorities' alleged unwillingness to fight corruption, while also accusing Poroshenko of protecting criminal groups in the region.
