Suspected university shooter remanded in central Turkey

The chief suspect in the killing of four university staffers in central Turkey was remanded in custody on Friday, according to judicial sources.

Axar.az reports quoting Anadolu Agency.

A court in the central Eskisehir province remanded in custody Volkan Bayar, 37, a research assistant at the province’s Osmangazi University, who was arrested soon after he allegedly shot dead four university staffers and injured three others on Thursday.

Also arrested on the day of the incident, the suspected assailant’s ex-wife, a research assistant at the university, was released under judicial control.

The victims of Thursday’s shootings were Osmangazi Deputy Dean Mikail Yalcin, faculty secretary Fatih Ozmutlu, research assistant Yasir Armagan, and Serdar Caglak, who recently earned his doctorate.
