Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo discussed Monday the Syrian peace process over the phone, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Axar.az reports that the situation on the Korean Peninsula was also among the topics of the conversation as well as the schedule of upcoming political contacts between Russia and the U.S., the ministry said on its website.

“Lavrov and Pompeo also discussed certain aspects of the bilateral relations including the schedule of the political contacts between Russia and the U.S. in the nearest time,” it said.

A U.S. official and a Russian media report have said Washington and Moscow were "exploring" the possibility of a meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.
