The Turkish army has surrounded Mount Kandil in northern Iraq on four sides.
Axar.az reports citing Turkish media that the region was cleared of PKK terrorists as part of the "Panja" and "Panja-Kaplan" operations.
After the operation, security towers and military bases were built on all roads leading to Kandil and on the heights in the region.
It is said that during the operations carried out in the 1990s, the Turkish army temporarily remained in the region. After about 35-40 days, the army returned to Turkey from the region. The PKK also used this to re-establish itself in the area. Military bases have been set up in areas cleared of terrorists by Operation Panja. According to the agreement reached between Turkey and the Iraqi Kurdish Autonomy, Peshmerga special forces are also stationed at the bases.
