NATO's move eastward is a major reason for growing mistrust with Europe.
Axar.az reports that the statement was made in an article by Russian President Vladimir Putin in the newspaper Die Zeit.
He said he had forgotten NATO's promises not to expand east after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Putin said that since 1999, the alliance has experienced five waves of expansion and includes 14 new countries, including the former Soviet republics. The Russian leader said that in fact buried Europe's hope to live without dividing lines.
