In January 2021, German Chancellor Angela Merkel rejected a phone call from recently inaugurated US President Joe Biden, who wanted to make his first call in her new position to her.
Axar.az reports that The Wall Street Journal disseminated this information.
According to the newspaper, after moving to the White House, Joe Biden decided that his first call to the foreign leader would be addressed to Angela Merkel. In the conversation, he planned to discuss a return to transatlantic stability after the instability of the Trump era.
However, the German Chancellor had slightly different plans.
“Merkel declined the call because she had planned a trip to her country house located near Berlin,” the newspaper said.
Later, the German Chancellor asked the assistants to schedule a new telephone conversation. It took place on Monday, January 25, when Merkel returned to work. It is clarified that the first leader of a foreign state to whom Biden called was Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The conversation took place on January 23rd.
