The events around Ukraine were caused by the expansion of the NATO bloc and the Western world's indifference to Russia's security concerns.

Axar.az reports the statement came from Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh.

"We think that at the root of everything we see today is NATO enlargement or disregard for European realities," he said. "This is the West's disregard for the political security considerations of a number of countries, especially Russia, as well as the agreements reached decades ago," Khatibzade said.
