Georgia’s progress toward European Union membership has been suspended due to the European Parliament’s refusal to recognize the country’s current government as legitimate.

Axar.az reports that this was stated in an official announcement posted on the European Parliament’s X account.

“Unless the Georgian government changes its authoritarian course, it will not be able to join the EU,” the statement emphasized.

It is also noted that while the European Parliament supports the Georgian people, it does not recognize the current ruling government.
