Russia intends to launch up to 2,000 drones at Ukraine simultaneously.
Axar.az reports citing German Major General Christian Freuding, head of the Ukraine Situation Center at Germany’s Ministry of Defense.
He stated that Russia is significantly expanding its production capacity to enable the mass use of drones in the war against Ukraine. “Moscow is planning to launch 2,000 drones at once, which will pose a serious challenge to Ukraine’s air defense system,” Freuding said.
The general also stressed the urgent need to develop countermeasures. He pointed out that using traditional systems—especially the Patriot air defense missiles, which cost over $5 million per unit—against inexpensive drones like Shahed UAVs, which cost around €30,000–50,000, is not a sustainable solution.
Instead, Ukraine needs low-cost anti-drone systems, priced between €2,000–4,000, to effectively respond to mass drone attacks and ensure cost-effective defense.
