As tension between the US and Iran increases, it is not unusual for the Pentagon to re-examine and update its contingency plans.
Senior Fellow in US Foreign Policy Paul Saunders told this to Axar.az during his comment on Patrick Shanahan’s statement about Iran.
According to him The Department of Defense is required to plan for many contingencies.
“Since Iran is an important regional power with significant military capabilities, defense officials would have to consider that in their planning. Naturally this also signals to leaders in Iran that the US military is preparing to respond if Iran provokes the United States.”
P.S. Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan presented an updated military plan to send 120,000 soldiers to the Middle East in case of Iran's decision to accelerate nuclear weapons development or attack US forces. The interesting fact is that, the last time US sent this amount of troops was in Iraq occupy.
