Photos of President Donald Trump’s hands showing visible bruises have sparked speculation about his health.
Axar.az, citing The Independent, reports that the White House attributed the marks to frequent handshakes, calling Trump a "man of the people."
However, social media users and commentators have suggested possible causes, ranging from aging and blood-thinning medication to IV treatments.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt has claimed the bruising is a result of handshaking:
"President Trump is a man of the people and he meets more Americans and shakes their hands on a daily basis than any other president in history. His commitment is unwavering and he proves that every single day," Ms Leavitt said.
"President Trump has bruises on his hand because he's constantly working and shaking hands all day every day," she said in a follow-up statement.
The incident comes amid ongoing scrutiny of Trump's health, with comparisons to past presidents and past concerns about his medical transparency. The debate over presidential fitness remains a politically charged issue, especially given Biden’s past health concerns and eventual withdrawal from the 2024 race.
