Neil Armstrong's 18-karat gold Omega Speedmaster Professional watch, the first man to set foot on the moon, has sold for $2.2 million at auction.
Axar.az reports that the watch was presented as a gift four months after Armstrong's historic moon landing. It is one of 26 gold watches specially created for NASA astronauts.
"This watch, which my father loved to wear on special occasions, symbolizes one of the most remarkable achievements in human history," said the astronaut's son, Mark Armstrong.
$850,000 of the money paid for the watch will be donated to charities of Armstrong's son's choice.
