Two employees of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) working at the office of "Sputnik Azerbaijan" (the Baku branch of Russia’s “Rossiya Segodnya” International News Agency) were detained during the operation
Axar.az informs, citing APА, this morning, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has been carrying out an operation at the Baku office of "Sputnik Azerbaijan."
As a reminder, a decision to suspend the operations of “Sputnik Azerbaijan,” which functions as a branch of Russia’s “Rossiya Segodnya” International News Agency, was made in February of this year.
It was stated that the decision was taken to ensure parity between Azerbaijan's state media operating abroad and foreign journalists working in Azerbaijan.
In other words, the number of journalists working for "Sputnik Azerbaijan" in Baku was to match the number of AZERTAC journalists in Russia.
However, the "Sputnik Azerbaijan" editorial office did not comply with this decision and continued its operations and staff activity during this time.
