Azerbaijani, Armenian civil society adopt joint decisions

The agreements reached and decisions made at the Baku meetings of Azerbaijani and Armenian civil society members have been announced, Ramil Iskanderli, Chairman of the Board of the National NGO Forum and member of the "Peace Bridge" Initiative, representing members of Azerbaijani and Armenian civil society, stated.

Axar.az reports that this was stated to APA by Ramil Iskandarli, Chairman of the Board of the National NGO Forum and a member of the “Peace Bridge” Initiative, which includes representatives of Azerbaijani and Armenian civil society.

Ramil Iskanderli said that on November 21-22, representatives of Armenian civil society visited Baku: “Within the framework of this visit, a meeting of representatives of civil society from Armenia and Azerbaijan was held for two days. Representatives of civil society from Armenia Arek Kochinyan, Boris Novasardyan, Naira Sultanyan, Narek Minasyan and Samvel Meliksetyan and Azerbaijani colleagues Farhad Mammadov, Rusif Huseynov, Kamala Mammadova, Fuad Abdullayev and I participated in this initiative. Considering that this process began last month in Yerevan, it was decided at the Baku meeting that this initiative would carry out specific activities under its own name from now on. This will be called the “Peace Bridge” Initiative. In addition, during the meeting, views were exchanged on the normalization and peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia in general, and discussions were held on the current situation. At the same time, the role of Azerbaijani and Armenian civil societies in restoring dialogue, the implementation of this role in the near future, that is, joint activities to be carried out, were discussed. They also discussed urgent issues of interest to both societies regarding the peace process. separate discussions were held."

Contact will be established between Azerbaijani and Armenian media

Ramil Iskanderli also announced that an agreement was reached at the meeting to intensify the establishment of relations in the media field: "At the same time, an agreement was reached to establish direct contacts between experts working in various fields. In general, an agreement was reached on the mechanisms for informing civil society and involving them in this process. It was also decided to carry out mutual visits within the framework of the ongoing peace process. I believe that the main difference of this meeting is that it was result-oriented, the agreements I listed were reached, and decisions were made."

Hikmet Hajiyev answered questions from Armenian experts

A member of the “Peace Bridge” Initiative noted that the members of the “Peace Bridge” Initiative met with Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan - Head of the Department of Foreign Policy Affairs of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan: “The Assistant to the President held a meeting with the group members in a cordial atmosphere, exchanged views. After the Washington meeting, steps taken by Azerbaijan and Armenia to strengthen the peace agenda were discussed, and he also answered questions. This was the official side of the program.”

Azerbaijani and Armenian civil society members toured Baku

He said that the informal, cultural part of the program was also carried out: "Within this framework, the guests who visited Baku visited various places - the Botanical Garden, the Palace of the Shirvanshahs, the Maiden Tower, and a tour of the Old City. A walk was also organized along the seaside boulevard, and they also visited Nizami Street. They also got acquainted with the Puppet Theater and the Little Venice zone. On the second day of the program, they visited the White City. They got acquainted with an architecture that would arouse their interest. One of the main cultural parts of this program was a visit to the Heydar Aliyev Center. The guests got acquainted with both permanent and temporary exhibition compositions there, and visited the zone showing the life path of Heydar Aliyev. Both the official and unofficial cultural parts of this trip were met with great interest."
