Tokayev meets Turkic states’ interior ministers in Astana

On the eve of the meeting of the Council of Ministers of Interior of the Organization of Turkic States, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with the heads of law-enforcement authorities from OTS member states at Akorda.

Axar.az reports, those attending the meeting included the ministers of interior of Azerbaijan—Vilayat Eyvazov, Kyrgyzstan—Ulan Niyazbekov, Turkiye—Mustafa Ciftci, Uzbekistan—Aziz Tashpulatov, and Kazakhstan—Erzhan Sadenov.

Addressing the gathering, Tokayev emphasized that cooperation among Turkic states has been steadily strengthening, rooted in shared history, language, traditions, and interests.

“The Organization of Turkic States greatly contributes to strengthening our friendship. Kazakhstan attaches great importance to deepening comprehensive interaction with this authoritative structure. The OTS member states enhance cooperation in various spheres, including between law-enforcement agencies. From this point of view, this meeting of the ministers of interior is of special importance,” he said.

The President highlighted modern challenges and threats arising from global transformations, noting that while the international situation has become unstable and unpredictable, new opportunities are also emerging. He stressed the need for decisive action to ensure prosperity, pointing to Kazakhstan’s recent reforms, including the adoption of a new Constitution through a nationwide referendum in March. The Constitution enshrines the protection of citizens’ rights and freedoms and the maintenance of law and order as fundamental principles. It also established the office of Vice President and ushered in a new government.

Tokayev further outlined changes in public administration and security structures.

“A new state agency—the Office of Security Council—has been set up to conduct comprehensive analysis of global and national challenges and coordinate national security. A new supreme consultative body—Khalyk Kenesi (People’s Council)—will be formed soon. The public administration system is undergoing deep renovation. Large-scale changes will encompass all spheres, including law-enforcement activities,” he emphasized.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Tokayev conveyed warm greetings to the leaders of OTS member states, calling for the preservation of friendly relations.

Secretary General of the Organization Kubanychbek Omuraliev also addressed the meeting.

On August 29, President Tokayev signed a decree establishing the Security Council Office.
