Azerbaijan and Syria are establishing a joint business council to foster business ties, Minister of Economy and Industry of Syria Mohammad Nidal al-Shaar said at the Second Azerbaijan International Investment Forum (AIIF 2026) in Baku on Friday.

Axar.az informs, citing Repоrt, that "Today we are announcing the establishment of the Syrian-Azerbaijani Business Council," the minister said.

According to him, the creation of the council is part of Syria's efforts to rebuild connections with the international community and forge new economic relations. He noted that a week earlier, a similar business council was formed with Uzbekistan.

"We are beginning to re-establish ties with the world that were lost over the past 60 years. This is not an easy task, and it comes with significant challenges," al-Shaar noted.

Al-Shaar emphasized that Syria is now open to investors and is currently updating its legal framework.

"Today we have no obstacles. We are updating our legislation. This is crucial for all investors, as our previous legislation was drafted with narrow interests in mind. Today, it is being adapted to open up our economy and attract investors," he said.

The minister added that Syria is interested not merely in attracting capital, but in establishing long-term partnerships, facilitating technology transfer, and securing investments that will foster overall economic development.
