Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has thanked Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev after Italiana Petroli (IP) decided to limit fuel prices across Italy.

Axar.az reports that, in a post on X, Meloni stated that “Following Eni, IP has also decided to limit fuel prices nationwide. This is an important sign of attention to Italian families, confirming that it is possible to make a concrete contribution to containing rising fuel costs."

"I would like to thank President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev for this sign of attention, which strengthens our cooperation, as well as SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf.

The government will continue to work to support families and protect their purchasing power, especially during this particularly complex international period,” Meloni added.

Earlier, SOCAR announced that it was ready to cap gasoline and diesel prices across the IP distribution network. The company said the price cap would be determined taking into account the need to ensure the continuity of the supply chain, which involves thousands of operators.

SOCAR stressed that the move was in response to the Italian government’s call to support families and businesses that have been facing high fuel prices for more than six months due to geopolitical instability and its impact on global supply chains.

The price caps will be introduced in stages, starting with the IP network.
