A meeting between the co-chairs of the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran was held during a visit to Iran by a delegation led by Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev.

Axar.az reports, citing the Cabinet of Ministers, that the sides discussed the current state of relations in the economic and trade, transport and communications, and humanitarian spheres, as well as other issues of mutual interest and prospects for developing cooperation.

The meeting also focused on the implementation of agreements reached at the 17th meeting of the State Commission, held in Baku in February, and measures outlined in the signed Memorandum of Understanding.

The deputy prime minister said the active political dialogue and friendly relations between Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Masoud Pezeshkian have provided significant impetus to the development of bilateral ties.

He particularly highlighted the meeting between the two leaders in Bishkek.

Reviewing the work carried out over the past period, Mustafayev stressed the importance of accelerating the implementation of agreed projects and maintaining coordinated efforts among relevant institutions.

The development of the International North-South Transport Corridor and increasing its capacity were among the main topics discussed in the transport and transit sector.

The sides noted with satisfaction the completion of construction of the Aghband-Kalala road bridge and discussed issues related to putting border-crossing infrastructure into operation.

Measures to complete work at the Astara cargo terminal and expand its cargo-handling capacity were also reviewed.

The sides exchanged views on prospective infrastructure projects between the two countries.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to continue efforts to develop mutually beneficial cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran, consistently implement agreements reached at the 17th meeting of the State Commission, and accelerate the implementation of joint projects.
