Pakistan, Turkiye, Saudi Arabia to discuss Houthi attacks

Pakistan, Turkiye and Saudi Arabia will hold an emergency meeting in Riyadh next week to discuss Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said.

Axar.az reports, citing Pakistani media, that the meeting of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee under the Mecca defence pact will examine the current situation in Saudi Arabia.

Dar said the three countries would determine a course of action at the meeting and share the decisions with the public afterward.

He also said at least six countries had expressed interest in joining the trilateral defence agreement, but declined to provide further details.

According to Dar, Pakistan had condemned a Houthi attack on a power plant in Medina and described it as unacceptable. He said Islamabad had also held discussions with Iran over the attacks, while Tehran denied links with the Houthis and Iraqi militias.

The Mecca defence pact between Pakistan, Turkiye and Saudi Arabia was signed on August 7 as a trilateral security framework focused on defence cooperation and collective security.
