Azerbaijan repatriates 13 citizens from Syria

Azerbaijan has repatriated 13 of its citizens from Syria, including six women and seven children, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry said.

Axar.az reports, citing the ministry, that the repatriation was carried out on October 6 as a result of coordinated and phased measures taken by the Azerbaijani government.

First, the whereabouts, identities and Azerbaijani citizenship of the repatriates were established.

Members of a working group comprising state agencies responsible for repatriating Azerbaijani citizens facing crises abroad were sent to Syria. The repatriates were provided with initial medical and psychological examinations.

Subsequently, with coordination by Azerbaijan’s embassies in Syria and Turkiye, as well as its Consulate General in Istanbul, the citizens were provided with return certificates and air tickets and brought back to Azerbaijan.

Appropriate measures are planned to support the social rehabilitation and reintegration of the repatriates into society.

The ministry said the Azerbaijani government will continue taking the necessary measures to repatriate Azerbaijani citizens who have become victims of armed conflicts in foreign countries.
