Bayramov attends CIS Foreign Ministers Council meeting -

On October 7, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov participated in and addressed a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), held in the Avaza National Tourist Zone as part of his working visit to Turkmenistan.

Axar.az reports, citing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, that in his address, the minister stressed the particular importance of respecting the fundamental norms and principles of international law amid growing global tensions, emphasizing that cooperation between countries based on mutual respect and consideration of interests is an important factor for regional stability, security and sustainable development.

The address noted the 35th anniversary of the establishment of the CIS and the 20th anniversary of the Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation, emphasizing the role of the Commonwealth as a platform for equal dialogue and multilateral cooperation. Speaking about the important place of humanitarian cooperation on the agenda, the minister highlighted the importance of the Priority Action Plan for 2027–2028, which includes more than 200 events. It was also noted that the third CIS Games held in Azerbaijan and events organized in Lachin as part of its designation as the “CIS Cultural Capital of 2025” made an important contribution to cooperation in culture, youth and sports across the Commonwealth.

It was stated that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to developing trade, economic and transport cooperation with CIS countries. Attention was drawn to the positive dynamics in trade turnover, as well as the consistent development of the East-West and North-South international transport corridors, ports and railway infrastructure as a result of Azerbaijan’s favorable geographical location and large-scale investments in infrastructure. It was noted that these steps would help fully realize the region’s transit and economic potential.

At the end, Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to the principles of good-neighborly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation with all CIS countries. Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov was wished success as Uzbekistan prepares to assume the CIS chairmanship, and it was noted that Azerbaijan is ready to provide the necessary support in addressing the tasks ahead.

As part of the event, views were also exchanged on a number of multilateral and regional issues of mutual interest, and several draft decisions to be adopted by the heads of state and government were considered.
