Russian Defence Ministry hopes cooperation with ICRC

Russian Deputy Defense Minister noted cooperation between the Russian center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria with the office of ICRC concerning delivery of relief aid in Syria.

Russia’s defense ministry hopes for further constructive cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the ministry’s press service said on Thursday.

"Russian Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov met today with President of the International Committee of the Red Cross Peter Maurer. Antonov paid special attention to the decades-long fruitful cooperation between the Russian defense ministry and the International Committee of the Red Cross in the area of international humanitarian law and expressed the hope for further constructive cooperation," the press service said.

The Russian deputy minister informed Maurer "about the Russian defense ministry’s humanitarian efforts in Syria, including deliveries of food products, drinking water and daily necessities, as well as medicines and medical equipment," the ministry said.

Antonov also noted "constructive cooperation between the Russian center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria with the office of the International Committee of the Red Cross concerning delivery and distribution of relief aid in Syria."

The Russian official handed over to the visiting ICRC president an invitation signed by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to attend the 6th Moscow conference on international security due to be held in April 2017.
