Russia invites US to talks on Afghanistan

Russia has invited the United State to talks on Afghanistan due to be held in Moscow next month, President Vladimir Putin’s special envoy to Afghanistan said Monday.

"We held a meeting in February with the participation of all countries in the region. We will expand the scope of this meeting on April 14," Zamir Kabulov told local media.

Russia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, China, Iran and India discussed on Feb. 15 regional approaches to the development of security in Afghanistan. The participants agreed to increase efforts to promote the intra-Afghan peace process.

Kabulov said Monday that five Central Asian countries and the U.S. -- which he added had not yet confirmed its participation -- were also invited to the upcoming meeting.
