"Representatives of the Syrian armed opposition have arrived in Astana early this morning," he said. "There are 24 people led by Ahmad Toma [member of the Joint Negotiations Committee formed following consultations between opposition groups, which took place in Riyadh in 2017 - TASS]," Zhainakov added.

According to him, a plenary meeting is scheduled to take place at 15:00 local time (09:00 GMT).

On May 14, the ninth round of talks on Syria kicked off in Kazakhstan’s capital of Astana. The parties plan to discuss the current situation in Syria, particularly in de-escalation zones, touch upon humanitarian issues and confidence-building measures, as well as to coordinate further steps to advance the peaceful settlement process. On May 14, bilateral and multilateral consultations took place, while a plenary meeting will be held on May 15.
