Azerbaijan recognizes Georgia’s territorial integrity

Azerbaijan recognizes the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia within the country’s internationally recognized borders, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Hikmat Hajiyev told Axar.az.

He was commenting on Syria’s recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia as independent states.

Azerbaijan demonstrates a principled position on such issues, noted Hajiyev.

“Azerbaijan is implementing a number of geo-strategic projects in the region with the participation of Georgia. The Southern Gas Corridor that will deliver Azerbaijani gas to the European market is one of these projects. Such projects meet the interests of both Azerbaijan and Georgia and contribute to the development of the countries,” the spokesman added.
