'Trump violated law by withdrawing from Iran nuclear deal'

The administration of US President Donald Trump violated international law by withdrawing from the Iran nuclear agreement and underscored his unjustifiable hostility towards the Islamic Republic, says an American author and radio host.

Axar.az reports citing Press TV.

In May last year, Trump pulled the US out of the Iran nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), claiming that it was a bad deal.

“By pulling out of the JCPOA, Trump and other regime people violated international law. The JCPOA was unanimously approved by the [UN] Security Council, making it inviolable international law,” Stephen Lendman told on Tuesday.

“Trump is a lawbreaker; this is only one of his many crimes that he has committed,” Lendman said.

“The hostility towards Iran is very very severe, unjustifiably so,” he added.

Former US Secretary of State John Kerry, who played a main role in the nuclear talks, has criticized the Trump administration for pulling out of the accord.

Kerry, who served during the administration of former US President Barack Obama, has described the deal as the “single strongest, single most accountable, single most transparent nuclear agreement anywhere in the world.”

Since leaving his post, Kerry has had several talks with the Iranian side, advising them to wait out until Trump leaves office.

Trump suggested on Monday that Kerry has provided Iran with “very bad advice” and may have violated US law by advising the Islamic Republic.

“Iran is being given VERY BAD advice by John Kerry and people who helped him lead the US into the very bad Iran Nuclear Deal,” Trump wrote on Twitter.

"Big violation of Logan Act?” Trump asked.

The Logan Act is a US law enacted in 1799 that criminalizes unauthorized negotiations with foreign governments having a dispute with the United States. Only two people have been indicted for violating the act in 1802 and 1852.
