France opposes US move to impose sanctions on FM Zarif

French Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday that Paris is opposed to the US government's decision to sanction Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javand Zarif.

Axar.az reports citing IRNA that the French Foreign Ministry also called for diplomatic settlement of tensions.

Earlier, the EU also condemned the US move to sanction Iran's foreign minister, announcing that the bloc will continue cooperation with Zarif.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has called the decision by the United States to sanction Iran's foreign minister "childish" amid rising tensions between the two countries.
