Today's document is of historical significance because for the first time Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan are launching joint development of the Caspian field. This will bring our countries and peoples closer together.

Axar.az reports that the statement came from President Ilham Aliyev during a video conference between the governments of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan on the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on joint exploration, development and exploitation of the Dostlug hydrocarbon field in the Caspian Sea.

"I am convinced that today's document could not have been signed without close political cooperation between our countries at all levels, and especially at the presidential level," he said.
