US Embassy's reaction to the President's pardon order

The US Embassy in Azerbaijan welcomed President Ilham Aliyev's May 27 decree "On pardoning a number of convicts."

Axar.az reports that the statement came from the official website of the diplomatic corps.

"The United States welcomes the pardon of imprisoned Azerbaijanis, including journalists, civil society representatives, members of the political opposition, and members of religious groups. We call on Azerbaijan to take additional steps in the coming months in accordance with Azerbaijan's international obligations and obligations to protect the fundamental freedoms of its citizens," the statement said.
