One of the main demands of Baku in the negotiations on the peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia is to ensure the return of Azerbaijanis to their homeland - West Azerbaijan, and Yerevan to guarantee their safety. Aliyev put forward this as one of the main conditions. According to official sources, this is one of the problematic issues in signing the contract.
Axar.az reports that the "Hraparak" publication wrote about it.
The publication writes that Nikol Pashinyan spoke openly about this in the last closed meeting with members of the ruling party:
"He stated that on the one hand, they cannot go against international conventions and reject the return of refugees, and on the other hand, they understand that this will be a disaster for Armenia. They will do everything possible to prevent this from happening."
The publication notes that Azerbaijan has already managed to include the issue of refugees' return to their homelands on the international agenda.
"U.S., European and Russian high-level officials have already started talking about it. It is reported that this issue is the subject of Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiations. At the Aliyev-Michel-Pashinyan meeting held in Brussels on July 15 of this year, the issue of the safe and dignified return of West Azerbaijanis to their homes was discussed. 10 days after the meeting, Pashinyan indirectly confirmed the existence of such a discussion," the publication writes.
