The South Caucasus is a vitally important region for Russia, and peace and stability there are in Moscow's interests.
Axar.az reports that the Russian ambassador to Armenia, Sergey Kopyrkin, said these words in an interview with "Sputnik" radio.
He noted that foreign forces not friendly to Moscow are working against Russia's interests in the South Caucasus:
"I think they consider the dramatic events in the South Caucasus as an opportunity to work against Russia. Unfortunately, it does have an effect, and it's a worrying factor we must consider. But I hope that the relations that unite us will be stronger than disagreements and attempts to undermine Russia's position and role in the South Caucasus.
"Russia has played, plays and will continue to play an important role in the South Caucasus, because it is in our interests to have it as a region of peace, stability, and development."
According to the diplomat, Russia will resolutely prevent any attempt to create confusion and use the region for geopolitical purposes.
