Heydar Aliyev's work still plays an important role today

Heydar Aliyev played an important role in the construction of the Baikal-Amur highway (BAM).

Axar.az reports that Russian President Vladimir Putin said this during his meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

"He (Heydar Aliyev - ed.) was one of the organizers of the great project important for the entire Soviet Union," he stressed.

According to him, Russia is still developing BAM:

"All the efforts, hard work and years spent by your father on the implementation of the project still play an important role today."
