Amnesty International has addressed a letter to the head of Iran's Justice System, Gholamhossein Mohsuni Ejei, regarding South Azerbaijani scientist Ahmadrza Jalali, a citizen of Sweden, who is detained in Evin prison in Tehran.

Axar.az reports that the organization issued a statement about this.

In the letter, it was emphasized that Jalali's arrest, trial, and death sentence were unfair, and he was requested to be released immediately.

At the same time, the Swedish government was also appealed to, and Stockholm was requested to increase its efforts towards the scientist's release.

It should be noted that the Azerbaijani scientist was arrested in April 2016 after visiting Iran to attend a scientific conference at the invitation of Tehran and Shiraz universities. In September 2017, the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced him to death on charges of "spying for Israel," and the decision was later upheld by Iran's Supreme Court.
