President Ilham Aliyev sent a letter of condolence to the President of the Republic of Turkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

"Dear Mr. President,

Dear Brother,

On the eighth anniversary of the events of July 15, I commemorate the dear memory of all our martyrs who sacrificed their lives to prevent the attempted coup d'état with deep respect and reverence, and offer my deepest condolences to their families and the entire Turkish people.

The heinous coup attempt that took place on this night, forever engraved in the blood memory of brother Turkiye, was an attack on the national interests, democratic foundations and the rule of law of your country. The wise and brave Turkish people fought resolutely for the Motherland, statehood and democracy and wrote a heroic epic once again. July 15 - "Democracy and National Unity Day" established in connection with these events will always live as a symbol of solidarity, struggle and national unity of your people and will be remembered with greater pride as the centuries pass.

Your immediate decisive steps and your leadership played a special role in defeating this coup attempt against Turkish statehood and thereby saving your country from great tragedies. Your people united closely around you and claimed their state, freedom and democracy and once again proved their national pride, strength and indomitable will to the world.

The people and state of Azerbaijan strongly condemned this betrayal from the first minutes and, as always, stood by the brotherly state and people of Turkiye. This was our duty of brotherhood and loyalty to Turkiye, with whom we shared our joys and sorrows.

Dear Mr. President, I remember our recent meeting with you in Astana and our detailed exchange of views with the best impressions. I am sure that we will successfully continue our joint efforts to expand Azerbaijan-Turkiye relations, multifaceted cooperation and strategic alliance, based on friendship, mutual trust and support, and to raise our interstate relations, which are unparalleled in the world, to a higher level.

I wish you good health, success in your work, peace and prosperity to the brotherly people of Turkiye."
