Mohammad Javad Zarif, the former foreign minister of Iran, is just trying to strengthen Tehran's position with his latest statements.
Axar.az reports that this was said by Dzyunik Aghajanyan, a member of the initiative group of the "Mother Armenia" movement.
He recalled that Russia offered a ceasefire twice during the 44-day war - on October 5 and 13:
"Also, Moscow officials held one-on-one meetings with the representatives of the co-chair countries of the OSCE Minsk Group. With these statements, Zarif is just trying to strengthen Iran's position in the process. It is an undeniable fact that Tehran sent proposals through some representatives during the war, and Yerevan rejected them."
Aghajanyan noted that during the operations in 2023, the then Minister of Defense of Russia Sergey Shoigu visited Iran:
"While he was in Tehran, a new proposal was sent to Armenia on behalf of Russia-Iran to resolve the issue. However, Iravan did not accept this either. From this point of view, there is some truth in the statements of the former Iranian official. It is simply not correct to evaluate the situation at that time with the current conditions. At that time, the situation was completely different. Even Russia could not achieve anything other than the status of a mediator."
It should be noted that a collection of memoirs of Mohammad Javad Zarif, the former foreign minister of Iran, was published in Tehran. In his memoirs, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs gave details about the relations with Azerbaijan, the steps taken by Tehran during the 44-day war, and the negotiations with Yerevan.
