On August 6, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Sergei Shoigu.

Axar.az reports that President Ilham Aliyev said that Sergei Shoigu's visit created a good opportunity to discuss the agenda of bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest.

The head of state noted the importance of regular contacts between Azerbaijan and Russia regarding the ongoing processes in the region.

Saying that our bilateral relations are developing successfully, the President of Azerbaijan emphasized that this is demonstrated in contacts at the highest and other levels, as well as in the implementation of signed documents and road maps between our countries, cooperation in security, transport, energy, military-technical, and humanitarian fields. President Ilham Aliyev stated that discussions are regularly held with President Vladimir Putin on these issues.

Stating that the intergovernmental commission is actively working, the head of state emphasized that a meeting of this commission will be held in Baku recently. President Ilham Aliyev noted that there are active contacts between other institutions of our countries.

The head of state noted with satisfaction the successful implementation of the decisions made between the political leadership of the two countries, namely the provisions of the Declaration "On mutual cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation".

Saying that Azerbaijan-Russia relations are an example for some neighboring states, President Ilham Aliyev valued this as an important security factor in the South Caucasus and in the wider area.

The Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Sergei Shoigu, expressed his gratitude to the delegation for the sincere and warm attitude, and said that personal relations between the heads of state of the two countries are based on this.

Sergei Shoigu emphasized the successful development of relations between our countries in the fields of regional security, military-technical, transport, and economy. He said that very important issues are on the agenda of bilateral cooperation and they have been successfully resolved. In this regard, he valued the implementation of the North-South corridor as an example of this and noted that great work has been done in this regard on a tripartite basis.

Sergei Shoigu said that his country supports the process of normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The prospects of cooperation in the "3+3" format were discussed at the meeting.

During the conversation, the respect shown in Russia to the memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev was touched upon, the Great Leader's great role in the construction of the Baikal-Amur Highway was mentioned once again, the importance of President Ilham Aliyev's participation in the event held in Moscow on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Baikal-Amur Highway in April of this year was emphasized.
