The U.S. warns countries trading with Moscow that they will face secondary sanctions if they allow Russian banks to open local branches to finance supplies for weapon production.
Axar.az reports that this was stated by U.S. Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo.
Adeyemo stated that countries should halt the creation of any Russian branch or subsidiary, as it will be used to evade sanctions:
"After the recent U.S. sanctions against companies like 'VTB Bank Shanghai,' Moscow is seeking payment channels for goods. Following previous rounds of pressure that pushed larger creditors in countries like China, Turkiye, and the UAE to distance themselves from their Russian counterparts, the focus is now shifting to smaller banks in new countries.
